What happens if a Canadian does not have a Will in Mexico?

In this case, Mexican law will determine your heirs and their shares, which can lead to high expenses, wasted time, and conflicts among potential heirs. A succession trial would then be necessary to establish the rightful heirs, which might not align with your wishes.

Another issue is the cost of probate. Your heirs might not have the funds to cover court costs and the wait time. However, all of this can be avoided with a written Mexican will (testamento).
